What Our Readers Say

Delightful and Surprising—5 Star Review

If you’re looking for a genre-bending, mind-blowing fusion of Sci-fi, social commentary, family drama, military pride, and teenage ninja hijinks…well today is your lucky day. And let’s be real. Who WOULDN’T look for that, if they knew such a book existed. That book exists, and it’s this one.
Inter-generational storylines. Intrigue. Spies. Spaceships. Pandemics. High-stakes combat involving Lennox dinner plates.
Are you kidding me? Page-turner doesn’t begin to describe this book. And I don’t even feel like I’m posting spoilers. Here’s why:
Avid readers like me get bored. We can guess a story’s next beat because we’ve read the same framework so many times.
Not this time. Not even close. At no point in this story did I know what the next paragraph would be, let alone the next major plot twist. That’s rare. That’s a true gem.
And somehow the author managed to ground this bonkers story in reality. Both in its science, and in the Truth of God’s grace and love. In goodness and beauty and family. She managed to balance humor with earnestness and candor. Wonderful!
Today, I bought one for myself, so I can pay it forward and loan it to others. 5/5 stars, highly recommend to literally anyone.

Mission: Teen Berets is a captivating work of creative non-fiction written by Kitty Tolsma Anderson. It delves into the lives of Benson Purdy, alias Warren Anderson, and his family. Following a tragic incident that claimed the lives of two family members, this spy family is forced into hiding. Years later, the SCIB spies, who were responsible for the tragedy, resurfaced with intentions to eliminate the remaining members. With hope that one family member is still alive, they must mount a daring rescue mission to save her, safeguard the others, or face dire consequences.

This book begins with the family’s younger children undergoing training led by their elder brother, Cole. As Cole relives the events involving his mother’s death and his wife’s kidnapping, a glimmer of hope emerges when news arrives that Fiona (his wife) might be alive. Yet, an immediate attack forces the family into defensive mode to protect their loved ones. Driven by their unwavering principle of leaving no one behind, they rally together to reunite and embark on a mission to rescue Fiona. But what sacrifices must the family make to save their own? Find out in this compelling book.

There are several aspects of this book that I admire greatly. The family’s unwavering faith in God shines through in every trial, turning their hardships into sources of joy. Their collective commitment to the rescue mission was also commendable. Additionally, I liked the seamless integration of fictional characters with real-life individuals, which adds depth to the story. I really appreciated the family’s open expression of their faith, regardless of age. The influence of their beliefs on the younger generation, exemplified by Gabe’s understanding of God and his interaction with his father, showcases the impact of such values. The inclusion of sketches enhanced the reading experience, particularly for younger audiences. Notably, the absence of profanity renders this book suitable for children and teenagers. The author effectively uses the story to underscore the lengths families will go to protect their loved ones, mirroring the team’s sacrifice for Eli’s family. The anticipation for the follow-up series is palpable.
